What does the Brewers Guild do?

The Brewers Guild of New Zealand is an Incorporated Society that represents the interests of the brewing industry.  It does this by:

  • Organising BrewNZ, New Zealand's annual beer awards and the public beer show Beervana
  • Negotiating with Government on legal, licensing, fiscal and excise issues
  • Sharing and disseminating information to members through the website and meetings
  • Collecting and disseminating information of value to members regarding laws, provisions, directives relating to brewing in New Zealand
  • Collecting industry statistics
  • Providing a spokesperson who can promote the point of view of the members
  • Educating members and the public
  • Promoting the positive aspects of beer

Why should I join the Guild?

If you are a brewery owner then joining the Guild as an Ordinary Member will give you the following benefits:

  • Access to the member side of the website including:
    • Online forums on education, technical questions, employment opportunities, Industry discussions and other topics
    • Minutes of AGM's and societies annual accounts
  • Discounted rates for beer entries in our annual beer awards at BrewNZ
  • Inclusion, with full contact details, in the online directory of breweries and on the NZ breweries brochure online and in print
  • Voting rights at the AGM, and a say in what the Guild does
  • Receiving communication from the Guild keeping you up-to-date with goings on in the industry, legal issues that may affect you and upcoming events.

If you are the owner of a corporation that supports the brewing industry in New Zealand then joining the Guild as a Corporate Member will give you the following benefits:

  • Inclusion, with full contact details, in the online directory of corporate members, a valuable online resource for breweries looking for suppliers, etc.
  • Involvement in industry activities and the right to attend, but not vote, at Guild meetings
  • Supporting the industry and the breweries that are your customers

If you work for a brewing entity in New Zealand or you are a private individual who is interested in the industry and wishes to support it, then as an Associate or Affiliate Member you will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Access to the member side of the website including:
    • Online forums on education, technical questions, employment opportunities, Industry discussions and other topics
    • Minutes of AGM's and the Guild's annual accounts
  • Receiving communication from the Guild keeping you up-to-date with goings on in the industry, legal issues that may affect you and upcoming events.

Who can join The Guild?

Ordinary

If you are the owner or a representative of a legal brewing entity in New Zealand.  This may be a company that has beer contract-brewed by another brewery. You will become the 'Ordinary' member with voting rights. Annual membership varies according to size of brewery.

One staff member, $150
Two to five staff (and all contract brewers), $300
Six to ten staff (and corporate members, including sponsors of BrewNZ), $500
Eleven or more staff, $1,000

Corporate

If you are the owner or representative of a support business to the brewing industry in New Zealand you may join as a Corporate member.

$500 pa

Associate

If you are a private individual who is interested in the brewing industry.

$20 pa

Notes:

 

  • Corporate and associate  members enjoy all the benefits of an ordinary member but cannot vote at an AGM.
  • A foreign brewing entity with a representative company in New Zealand (but with no brewing facility) may join as a corporate member and enter beers (or ciders) for BrewNZ at the member rate.
  • Cider Producers in New Zealand may join the Guild as corporate members and enter ciders for BrewNZ at the member rate.
