BrewNZ Beer Awards August 2009
For the 8th year running The Brewers Guild of New Zealand invites breweries from all over the world to enter their beers for New Zealand’s premier beer competition, the BrewNZ Beer Awards. The beers will be judged over three days by a panel of experts, led by US-based judge David Logsdon. The BrewNZ Beer Awards culminate in an awards evening on 27 August at the Duxton Hotel. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded in each of 17 trophy classes, and those beers commercially available in New Zeland will be eligible to win a trophy. Breweries brewing beers not available in New Zealand will be eligible for the 'Champion International Brewer' trophy (see below).
If you wish to enter the awards you must make your entry using the online process below. Beers may be added to your list and removed over the period of time before the dealine of 31st July. When you have completed your entry you finalise it online and make payment. Entries that are not paid by 31st July will NOT BE JUDGED. Those breweries for which payment is outstanding will receive an email reminder.

After 8 beers are entered any subsequent entries (submitted in one go) attract a 50% discount.

Payment is preferred by credit card (VISA or MasterCard) using the online entry process
Only fully paid entries will be entered for judging
*Only breweries situated in New Zealand are eligible to join the Brewers Guild
Entries are preferred in bottled form, if your product is not available in bottles, then kegs may be used but there will be an additional charge of $10 per entry to cover handling. Cask conditioned ales may be entered and will also be subject to the $10 surcharge.
A minimum of 4 litres of each beer entered is required for judging.

US Entries
The New Zealand Brewers Guild is aiding US entries into our awards by offering a consolidation point for beer entries in Portland, Oregon. Breweries can send their beer to this point and it will be handled properly and then consolidated onto pallets for shipment to NZ. The charge for this will be NZ$20 (approx US$12-50) per carton of 12 x 335ml bottle and NZ$40 (US$25-00) for 12 x 610ml bottles. To take advantage of this offer the entries will need to be paid for and delivered to the address below by the 25th of June, 2009.Payment for this option can be made as part of the online entry process.

European Entries
The New Zealand Brewers Guild is aiding European entries into our awards by offering a consolidation point for beer entries at Weyermann Specialty Maltings, Bamberg. Breweries can send their beer to this point and it will be handled properly and then consolidated onto pallets for shipment to NZ. The charge for this will be NZ$20 (approx €9.00) per carton of 12 x 330ml bottle and NZ$40 (€18.00) for 12 x 500ml bottles. To take advantage of this offer the entries will need to be paid for and delivered to the address below by the 25th of June, 2009.Payment for this option can be made as part of the online entry process.

New for 2009
For the first time a new trophy is available “Champion International Brewer”. This trophy is designed exclusively to reward entrants whose beers are currently NOT commercially available in New Zealand (and who are therefore ineligible to win any of the other trophies). The trophy will be awarded to the brewery with the highest average score across its three highest scoring entries. To be eligible a brewery must have a minimum of three beers entered.
Gold medal = 3 points , Silver medal = 2 points , Bronze medal = 1 point No medal = 0 points
Class, Style and subcategory is to be chosen from attached style guidelines based on those from the World Beer Cup with the addition of four NZ specific styles (classes 101 – 104)
In addition, and for the first time, ciders and perries are being accepted. Notes and style guidelines are attached (classes 127 – 128).
