The Second New Zealand brewing short course
Massey University, in conjunction with the University of Ballarat, will be hosting a brewing short course to be held in New Zealand. The dates for 2010 have been set for August the 26th to the 31st which will allow the course participants to stay in affordable 'on campus' accommodation. This date is shortly after the New Zealand Beer judging that may be held in Palmerston North in 2010. The second event is Beervana that will be held in Wellington on the weekend of the 27th and 28th of August and during the short course.
The course will use the microbrewery at Massey University to demonstrate basic and advanced principles of brewing beer. Two experienced lecturers from the University of Ballarat, Dr. Peter Aldred and Dr Frank Vriesekoop who have a long history in teaching brewing will be running the course. At the end of the course, we will visit commercial breweries near Palmerston North. The breweries are of very different scale and will demonstrate the practical aspects of commercial brewing.
A provisional program has been included and the format and topics covered are very similar to last years course although some new speakers may be introduced. During the course there will be tasting and discussing in class and social settings many of the large and small brewery beers available in New Zealand.
The course is designed for newcomers to serious brewing through to more experienced brewers seeking to extend their knowledge base.
