The Great Kiwi Beer Festival Raises Hops & Enjoyment in Christchurch
Over ten thousand people from Canterbury and around New Zealand, attended the Great Kiwi Beer Festival in the sun at Hagley Parkon the Saturday the 25th February, for what some said was the biggest beer festival in New Zealand.
Team Event director Callam Mitchell, who is part of the group that runs and owns the festival, said he was thrilled with the response.
More than 100 different beers from 40 brewers, as well as a few ciders and wines, were on offer at the festival. The event was focused on savouring craft beers rather than consuming vast quantities, with beer appreciation and food-matching seminars also provided.
The live music entertainment will include The Black Seeds, AHoriBuzz, The Nudge, The Unfaithful Ways and DJ's Nacoa and Seth Hamilton.
"The vibe and the atmosphere was really positive, and there was a great mix of people too."said Team Event director Callam Mitchell, who is part of the group that runs and owns the festival.
Mitchell said the crowd was well-behaved, with only three evictions and one arrest during the eight-hour event.
Some attendees had flown down from Auckland and Wellington for the festival, while beer writers from the United States and Australia were also present.
"There was some real genuine interest in beer appreciation ... there was a lot of dialogue going on with the brewers from people who were really interested about beer, " Mitchell said, and we couldn't agree more!
