Brewery Assistant
This is a full time year round position.
Some weekend and holiday work is required.
Wages dependent upon experience.
Skills Required:
These skills are preferred as previous experience, however not required.
• Previous Management of staff of 3 or more
o Be able to instruct a small team as necessary
• 1+ Year of commercial brewing experience in a similar size brewery.
o Thorough knowledge of brewing process preferred.
o Some skills required cannot be readily taught with on the job training. However in-house techniques will be shown and the employee will be expected to consistently follow these procedures.
• Team Player
o Be able to work with a small team. Capacity to learn and instruct others. Know when to pitch in.
• Positive can-do attitude
o We are a small growing, evolving business, we need people that want to work and committed to making the best beer possible. Take instructions well.
• IBD or similar degree preferred.
• Knowledge of cellar and draft systems.
o Cleaning and maintenance of these systems will be required
o Portable as well as, draft and hand pull devices
• Thorough understanding of sanitation and safe handling practices
• Thorough understanding of brewery water treatment
• Thorough understanding of wort production
• Thorough understanding of brewing equipment and how to maintain.
• Thorough understanding of yeast management and propagation.
• Thorough understanding of filtration and using a centrifuge
• Thorough understanding of operating a keg cleaner
• Thorough understanding of filling kegs
• Thorough understanding of running an automated labeller and bottle filler
o Specific skills related to GAI MLE440 a plus
Job Description:
Your position will include but not be limited to:
• Cleaning and Sanitation, of all brewing equipment.
• Maintain and monitor brewing equipment functions
• Brewing Process:
o Wort production
o Cellar management
• Weighing, measuring, mixing, dissolving and boiling ingredients
o Adding these materials to beverages (Beer)
• Operating heating, chilling and carbonation equipment
o Zahm Nagel carbonation tester
• General Cleaning, inside and outside of brewery facilities
o Daily cleaning of work areas and equipment
• Monitoring product quality before and after packaging by inspecting, taking samples and adjusting treatments conditions when necessary
o Use a Anton Paar Dissolved Oxygen meter
• Cleaning kegs
o Operating an automated keg cleaner
• Cleaning tanks, pumps, hoses, storage tanks, vessels
o Daily and as needed
• Cleaning floors
o Daily and as needed
• Working on the production line during bottling and packaging
o Operating and running the bottling/canning machine
• Filling kegs
• Picking and fulfilling orders, moving products from production lines to storage and shipping areas
• Monitoring inventory levels
o Taking monthly stock takes
• Working and attending festivals
o As needed
• Driving a forklift
o Forklift licence recommended
o Training can be provoided
• Intimate knowledge of cellar boys and draft systems, cleaning and repair.
In addition, to complete the work required
You must be:
Able to lift heavy objects >65kg safely
Physically fit
Have a clean NZ Full drivers licence
Enjoy working outdoors
Able to legally work in NZ
Free from addictions to any drugs or alcohol
