Enough about us – here’s a bit about what your days could look like as our new Bar Manager:
It’s a Friday. You’ve had a lazy morning and a coffee in the sun before heading into Canyon Brewing for your midday start. The afternoon’s humming – the bar team is smashing it, customers are happy, and you’re making sure every pint, plate, and interaction meets our high standards. You’ve checked stock, jumped on the tools during a rush, dealt with a big function enquiry, and sorted the next week’s rosters. The evening peaks with a packed beer garden and live music – you’re right in the thick of it, leading the team and making sure service is running like clockwork. By the time you wrap up the till count and final reports, you’re already thinking of tomorrow’s new product launch.
To excel in your new role, you’ll:
- Bring at least 3 years of relevant work experience or NZQF Diploma.
- Hold a current General Manager’s Certificate (required).
- Have proven skills in staff recruitment, training, rostering, and performance management.
- Be confident in managing budgets, monitoring bar performance, and implementing strategies to maximise profitability.
- Have hands-on experience in stock control, ordering, rotation, waste minimisation, and accurate record keeping.
- Understand liquor licensing laws, food safety standards, and workplace health & safety regulations – and ensure the venue always complies.
- Bring strong leadership, problem-solving, and organisational skills to keep operations running smoothly under pressure.
- Have exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to resolve complaints and foster positive relationships with customers and suppliers.
- Be flexible to work a 7-day rotating roster including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
In this role, you will:
- Manage and oversee daily bar and front-of-house operations.
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to maintain service standards.
- Lead, coach, and mentor the team to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
- Coordinate and manage functions and events.
- Implement sales initiatives, promotions, and product launches.
- Monitor competitor activity and identify opportunities to grow the business.
- Maintain all compliance records, SOPs, and operational systems.
- Receive a minimum guarantee of 30 hours per week on a rotating roster.
If you’re a natural leader with a passion for hospitality, craft beer, and creating memorable customer experiences – we want you on our team.
