Brewer (Craft Beer) – Behemoth Brewing Company Ltd

Summary:

Behemoth Brewing Company was founded in 2013 and has rapidly grown into one of NZ’s favourite and most awarded independent craft breweries. Most recently, we won Champion Medium Brewery of NZ at the 2023 (and 2022) New Zealand Brewers Guild Awards.

 

We enjoy experimenting with ingredients and creating beer big on flavour. We have a small, quality brewery team who has helped us to make more than 500 unique beers and produce more than 4 million liters of beer over the last 11 years.

 

Now, we’re looking for an Experienced Brewer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the brewing process, training junior team members, ensuring the quality and consistency of our products, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The Brewer will work closely with other team members to ensure that production goals are met and that our customers receive the highest quality products.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the brewing process from start to finish, including collaborating on recipe development, ingredient selection, and brewing techniques
  • Oversee & monitor yeast health (counting cells and re-pitching)
  • Assist in overseeing equipment use and maintenance including, but not limited to fermenters. the hopnik, & centrifuge.
  • Assist in training new and less experienced team members in the brewery, especially in equipment use, beer monitoring (pH, gravities, temperatures), dry hopping, and sensory analysis.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality and consistency of our products, ensuring that they meet our high standards
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure that production goals are met and that our customers receive the highest quality products
  • Conduct regular quality control checks to ensure that our products meet all specifications
  • Maintain accurate records of all brewing activities, including inventory, production, and quality control data
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments, and make recommendations for process improvements and new product development

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a brewing or production environment
  • Experienced in running a centrifuge, hopnik, and beer monitoring devices (such as a pH meter and/or FOSS)
  • Strong knowledge of brewing techniques, ingredients, and equipment
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • Certificate in Brewing Microbiology or similar science degree (preferred)
  • Experience in supply management / inventory process a bonus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production deadlines
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed
