Beer Enlightenment Seminars

• Beer and Cheese pairing, no longer just to be enjoyed with wine. New Zealand has some award winning cheeses to match with award winning New Zealand craft/premium beers
• "Becoming a Beer Aficionado" - Female beer experts will dispel beer myths for women. This is a seminar for women by women.

Returning again this year, for another beer and food matching seminar is celebrity chef, author and restaurant owner, Martin Bosley and renowned beer writer, Neil Miller. Showcasing the finest of New Zealand cuisine and beer. Last year's seminars sold out, don't miss this opportunity to see a great show.

BrewNZ Beervana History

This is the eighth year of this event. While Beervana has taken different avenues, the beer has always been the featured event to promote NZ best craft premium brews in the industry. However, BrewNZ 2009 promises to be bigger and better than ever before. BrewNZ 2009 will showcase the finest examples brewers have to offer – over 60 breweries will be entering the awards and exhibiting their premium/craft beer in August of 2009 from New Zealand and Internationally.

There are three main components to this celebration:

1. BrewNZ Beer Awards - An international beer competition featuring world leaders in the beer judging arena including WBC San Diego. Local and international beers will be judged over a three day period by a panel of experts led by US based judge David Logsdon.
2. Beervana - The Event - The awards will culminate in an Awards evening for both public and industry presented by a celebrity MC. This years awards will be held at The Duxton Hotel Wellington on 26 August. Tickets on sale from 7 June 2010.
3. BEERVANA 2010 - A sampling event for the public featuring New Zealand brewers and well known celebrity chef Martin Bosley and renowned beer writer Neil Miller. This event is intended to educate guests on beer styles and the art of beer and food matching, sharing their enthusiasm and enjoying samples in one space together. Other education seminars are on tap during both days of the festival.

THE TRENDS

The New Zealand Premium beer scene has grown exponentially in the past few years, following a similar trajectory to the wine industry – in fact some are saying that beer is the new wine. If overseas trends are anything to go by, we can expect this sector to continue to grow as beer drinkers are consuming less beer and demanding a more sophisticated and handcrafted product.
