The NZ Beer Awards are the most prestigious beer and brewing competition in Aotearoa. Each year, hundreds of beers arrive for judging – some packaged, some in kegs, all needing to be sorted, numbered, and carefully chilled in preparation. These beers come from across New Zealand (and a few from Australia), crafted with passion and skill using the finest ingredients: hops, malt, water, and whatever else each brewer’s creativity demands.
A team of qualified judges and stewards travel to the venue by coach, ready for an intense 2.5 days of precision and collaboration. Every single beer is poured and served at exactly the right temperature, at the right time, to the right judge, on the right table. Kegs are wrangled, beer flights are prepared, and more than 50 people work seamlessly together to deliver a world‑class judging experience. Winners remain top‑secret until they’re revealed in July at the glittering gala dinner.
