We’re Hiring An Assistant Bar Manager
Location: Sprig + Fern The Meadows | Berryfields, Nelson Pay: $26–$30 per hour, depending on experience Hours: Anywhere from 30 – 35 hours a week Employment type: Full time
About the Role:
Sprig + Fern The Meadows is looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Bar Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our community-focused craft beer tavern.
The successful applicant will work alongside the owners to oversee bar operations, supervise staff, maintain service standards, and ensure compliance with New Zealand licensing and workplace requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the daily management and smooth operation of the venue.
- Supervise, train, and support staff.
- Assist with staff rostering and task delegation.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures.
- Manage stock control, ordering, stocktakes, and wastage.
- Assist with cash handling and end-of-day reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with liquor licensing, responsible alcohol service, health and safety, and food safety requirements.
- Handle customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
- Assist with events, promotions, and maintaining high venue standards.
- Communicate operational matters and performance concerns to management.
- Create great customer relationships.
Requirements:
- Minimum three years of hospitality management experience.
- Current, valid New Zealand Duty Manager’s Certificate.
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing hospitality operations.
- Knowledge of responsible alcohol service and New Zealand liquor licensing requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
Craft beer knowledge and experience with stock control and hospitality POS systems would be advantageous.
